Just Released: OIG Investigations Find Most Allegations Unsubstantiated
The BART Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has released its latests report, Summary of Investigations – Volume II (2026), highlighting the results of eight investigations into alleged employee misconduct.
In this report, the OIG found that most allegations were unsubstantiated, including claims related to time theft, conflict of interest, misuse of District resources, and workers’ compensation fraud. One matter was already being addressed through the grievance process.
Maintaining public trust requires accountability and transparency. Through independent and confidential investigations, the OIG works to protect public resources and ensure that allegations of fraud, waste, or abuse are thoroughly reviewed—even when findings ultimately clear employees of wrongdoing.
Key highlights:
- Seven allegations were unsubstantiated after review of records, interviews, and site observations
- One case was already been addressed through established grievance procedures
- No recommendations were issued, as no policy violations or systemic issues were identified
The report also reinforces the importance of confidentiality in investigations, particularly when allegations are not substantiated, to protect employees from unwarranted harm.
