Just Released! Fiscal Year 26–28 Audit Plan
The BART Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has released its Fiscal Year 2026–2028 Audit Plan, which sharpens our focus on cost savings, risk reduction, and public accountability.
The amended plan builds on lessons learned from past audits and investigations and introduces two new high-impact audit areas:
- Capital Projects – to assess lifecycle costs, return on investment, and preventative maintenance
- Non-Revenue Vehicles – to evaluate fleet use, take-home policies, and cost control
These new areas were added in direct response to risks identified during OIG investigations. The revised plan also narrows the scope of audits across six key categories, including employee compensation, asset management, benefits administration, and contracting.
We removed the previously proposed hiring practices audit due to BART’s current hiring freeze and a drop in related complaints.
